LAP Level 0 · Survival
Cry Out / Be Carried
Receive care before trying to perform. In crisis, Christian spirituality begins with the conviction that suffering does not place a person beyond God’s presence or mercy.
Practice on the trail
Pray honestly, seek safety, accept practical help, and reconnect with trustworthy community.
Reflection at camp
“What do I need to receive before I can meaningfully rebuild?”
Christian formation marker
Behaviors to practice and integrate
- Accept safety, food, shelter, rest, care, and trustworthy help when needed.
- Pray honestly, even if the prayer is only: “God, help me.”
- Stay connected to safe Christian community instead of disappearing into isolation.
- Avoid choices that unnecessarily deepen the crisis while focusing on the next faithful step.
Evidence of integration
You can receive help without treating need as spiritual failure, and you instinctively reach toward God and trustworthy people rather than hiding alone.
Learning
I understand what this level asks of me.
Practicing
I am deliberately repeating these behaviors, especially when they are difficult.
Integrated
These behaviors are established enough to travel with me into harder terrain.
Integrated does not mean “I never struggle again.” It means the behavior is established enough that you can usually carry it with you into harder terrain and return to it after disruption.
